Can everyone get laser tattoo removal?
No! Below is a list of potential contraindications to laser tattoo removal:
- Pregnancy/Breastfeeding
- Compromised immune system
- Taking medications with photosensitivity, phototoxicity or skin fragility reactions (certain antibiotics, Accutane, Retinol etc.)
- If you have started getting sunburn more easily since starting your medications, talk to your doctor before scheduling an appointment
- Exposing the area to the sun
I am under the care of a physician or
dermatologist, can I get tattoo removal?
Yes, but we will want to make sure it is safe for you to receive tattoo removal. Message your doctor on MyChart to verify this. They will let you know if you need to discontinue any of your medications before the procedure.
Does it hurt?
Yes, but we will ice the area prior to the procedure to help lessen the sensation. You can also apply numbing cream to the area prior to your arrival. The procedure is MUCH quicker than getting a tattoo.
How many sessions will it take?
It is impossible to know the exact number of sessions it will take to remove a tattoo. Older tattoos typically lighten more quickly than newer tattoos. People with better immune systems are faster at clearing the ink than people who are sick often.
